Cold Storage

In 2008 Hamann Construction was asked to expand an existing cold storage facility. The initial cold storage facility was a traditional tilt up building, but the unique nature of energy conservation in cold storage prompted a change in construction methods. The 130,000 sq/ft building was built with a sixty-foot clear height to maximize cooling capabilities and can hold more than 38,000 pallets. Due to the height of the building, the walls were constructed out of insulated metal panels vs concrete. The cold storage building also incorporates many green technologies – water from the cooling towers are used to irrigate landscaping, pervious pavement returns water to the earth, and a 1 mega watt solar system was installed to provide more than 60% of onsite power needs.
