Pinnacle, San Diego, CA
Pinnacle Industrial Supply is a supplier of pipes, valves, fittings, and specialty metals to the construction trades. Their broad range of products are used for projects ranging from plumbing to power generation. In business since 1984 Pinnacle found themselves in need of a larger building with land to accommodate outside storage located in the same general area as their existing facility. Dan Halecky, Pinnacle’s President, after seeing many of Hamann’s signs in the neighborhood, approached Gregg Hamann about the potential for obtaining land and constructing the new facility. After discussing Pinnacle’s needs Hamann facilitated the purchase of a property within a quarter mile of their Otay Mesa operation. A positive relationship for all was launched as a design-build partnership, with Hamann acting as developer for the ‘turn-key’ contract enabling ownership by Pinnacle upon completion.
The property acquired is a 3.56 acre parcel formerly used for trailer rental storage. A good portion of the site was already paved and with some creative site planning a building was positioned to take advantage of the remaining land for Pinnacles outside storage needs. A 32,213 sf tilt-up concrete building was constructed on the parcel including 2,829 sf of second floor area. Architectural features include reveals, exposed concrete portions, curtainwall glass and shade canopies colored to showcase Pinnacles corporate colors and signage. The building boasts 27’ of clear height for inside storage along with oversized industrial doors for drive-through access aiding in the delivery and storage of greater pipe lengths than previously accommodated. Natural light for interior warehouse areas was delivered by way of a higher percentage of skylights to floor area while still allowing for installation, by Hamann Electric, of a 69 KW roof mounted photo voltaic solar array.
